Over the past three weeks, I have been grateful to intern at Impact Hub Kathmandu. I am an undergraduate university student studying Geography and my time at Impact Hub Kathmandu has given me a valuable view of meaningful change happening on the ground.
Specifically, I worked primarily on the Roots of Circularity Project. It was interesting to see how circular economy principles, which I have previously touched on in my studies, are put into practice by Nepali entrepreneurs. But beyond this, I learned more about the day-to-day running of the RoC project, and how entrepreneurs are selected and supported. I helped analyse the incubatees’ Google Forms from before and after the project, where they were asked various questions from the number of people they employ to how much they felt they understood circular economy principles. Seeing the project from the inside showed me how ideas about circularity become practical steps for the people and enterprises involved.
I also observed part of an RoC masterclass in action. It was insightful to see how the incubatees were drawn in, whether through hands-on activities that kept them on their feet or through presentations. The variety of formats made the sessions interactive, and it was clear how much the participants valued learning from one another as well as from Impact Hub Kathmandu.
Beyond these areas, I supported the team wherever I was needed, from researching helpful literature to making posters. Each task gave me a fuller picture of how the Impact Hub runs day to day.
Lastly, I have loved spending time in the Kathmandu office. It has been a lesson in what a supportive and positive workplace looks like, from the birthday celebrations to the farewells.
